Golden Milk for Each Ayurvedic Dosha

Golden milk has been used in the Yogi tradition for centuries to strength the weak and to delight the kings. Golden milk is versatile, giving a variety of options for each constitution and for each occasion. You can use any milk of your preference and a combination of spices for your constitution. The key is to use turmeric and ginger as a base.

I personally like to put it in the blender for a few seconds to combine the spices well and to give a foamy texture. Golden milk is ideal for children when you add one or two dates to give some iron and fortify the delicate Vata constitution. You can serve golden milk cool or hot; however, to make this soothing drink effective, I prefer the warm option. Golden milk is a wonderful sedative drink to take before bed when it is combined with nutmeg and cinnamon.

Once you adopt Golden milk in your daily routine, I promise that you will feel eager to serve it in other gatherings or just to have it to company a good book on a cozy sofa.

The Classical Golden Milk

1 cup of cow’s milk
1 tsp. of turmeric powder
1 tsp. of tahini
2 tsp. of jaggery or honey
Pinch of cardamom

Golden Milk for Each Constitution

Pitta Constitution

1 tsp. of coconut powder
¼ tsp. coconut sugar
1 tsp. turmeric powder
¼ tsp. fresh ginger
1 cup light coconut milk
2 tsp. of pomegranate powder
Add a pinch of black pepper, pink salt, cinnamon, ginseng powder and fenugreek.

To make this drink, fortify it by adding 1/2 tsp. of shatavari powder which is traditionally used in Ayurveda to support women of all ages. Add it as a female friendly herb for menstrual weakness and to help mature women to gracefully move through the natural phases of life, including menopause.

For Vata Constitution

¼ tsp. of jaggery or honey
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. of cashew butter or tahini
1 cup of milk. Ideally, you will be using organic cow’s milk or you can replace it with almond milk or oat milk.
1 tsp. of fresh ginger
2 or 3 dates, no pits
Pinch of: cayenne, pink salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, Himalayan salt and cardamom

To fortify this drink, you can add ½ tsp. of ashwaghanda powder.

For Kapha Constitution

½ tsp. of honey (do not heat honey)
1 tsp. of turmeric
1 tsp. of almond butter or sunflower
1 cup of almond milk
¼ tsp. dry ginger
Spices: black pepper, cardamom, cayenne, nutmeg, cinnamon

How to Make Golden Milk

Warm up the milk with spices. Blend the warm milk with the rest of the ingredients and serve immediately.
